Attribute has too few values

What causes the "Attribute has too few values" error in Merchant Center and how to fix it.

Plain-English summary

This error means a list-type attribute, like additional_image_link or a multi-value colour field, was submitted with fewer entries than Google expects. Fix it by checking that attribute's minimum requirement in the spec and adding the missing values.

What triggers it

"Attribute has too few values" applies to attributes that expect a list rather than a single value. If Google's requirement for that attribute (given the product's category or configuration) calls for more entries than you've submitted, this error fires, even though the attribute itself isn't missing entirely.

It's most common on additional_image_link when only one extra image is supplied where more are expected, or on multi-value colour or material fields where a product genuinely comes in several options but the feed only lists one.

Enrichment checks list-type attributes against the values it can find or derive and writes a complete set on a supplemental layer, catching short lists before Google does. Related demographic gaps are covered in "Missing value: size, color, gender, age group".

Step by step

  1. Identify which attribute and product are flagged. Diagnostics names both the product and the specific list attribute that's short of values.
  2. Check that attribute's minimum requirement. Some attributes accept a single value; others, like additional_image_link, expect multiple entries once a product has more than one photo, or are only flagged when the category expects a set (such as multiple colours for a multi-colour pack).
  3. Add the missing values. Complete the list so it meets the minimum Google expects for that attribute and category.
  4. Re-submit and confirm the flag clears. Once the list is complete and Google re-fetches the feed, the error should clear within the normal crawl window.
