Mismatched product availability
What causes the "Mismatched product availability" error in Merchant Center and how to fix it.
This error means your feed's availability value (in stock, out of stock, and so on) disagrees with what Google's crawler sees on the landing page. Fix it by syncing availability to your real stock status and refreshing the feed as often as stock actually changes.
What triggers it
"Mismatched product availability" fires when the availability value in your feed (in_stock, out_of_stock, preorder, and so on) doesn't match what Google finds on the landing page at crawl time. It follows the same logic as a price mismatch: Google trusts the live page over the feed.
The usual cause is timing rather than bad data: the feed reflects warehouse-level stock while the page reflects a per-variant sellout, or stock changed faster than the feed's refresh schedule caught up.
/tools syncs availability from your store's actual inventory data (see inventory and availability sync) and flags products drifting toward a mismatch, so stock status stays accurate between fetches rather than only at the next scheduled sync.
Step by step
- Check the live product page's actual stock status. Open the page and see whether it shows in stock, out of stock, or a variant-level sellout. This is what Google's crawler is reading.
- Compare it against your feed's availability attribute. If the feed says in_stock but the page shows sold out (or the reverse), that's the mismatch.
- Sync availability from the same source that renders the page. Pull availability from your actual inventory system rather than a separate or manually maintained value, so the two can't drift apart.
- Increase feed refresh frequency for fast-moving stock. If items sell out or restock within hours, a once-daily feed will constantly lag. Tighten the refresh cadence to match how fast stock actually moves.
